Hurricane Season Starts June 1

Now is the time to decide what you will do with your furry family – before a storm is headed our way. There is at least one pet-friendly evacuation shelter in all three of the south Florida counties – Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Broward County pet-friendly shelter info:
The nearest pet-friendly shelter is Millennium Middle School, 5803 N.W. 94th Ave., in Tamarac. Those wanting to use the shelter during an emergency must pre-register because of space limitations by calling 954-266-6871. Owners are required to show proof that they reside in a County evacuation zone and that their pets have up-to-date vaccinations, including a rabies shot.

OTHER COUNTY PET FRIENDLY SHELTERS

Palm Beach County provides a pet friendly shelter at the West Boynton Recreation Center. Pre-registration is required by calling 561.233.1266

The Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach has space available. Pre-registration is required by calling 561.472.8874

Miami-Dade County provides pet friendly shelters at the Sunshine Pavilion at the County Fairground and at Highland Oaks Middle School in North Miami Beach. Pre-registration is required by calling the Miami Date Animal Services Department. Residents may call 311.

Hurricane season begins on June 1 and runs till November 30. The past few years have taught us a lot in hurricane preparation and safety and as pets become more and more embedded into our families, we learn that these things extend to them as well. Just like you prepare your family and home, prepare and take care of your pets during these storms.
